Martial Arts - Taekwondo
I have been learning taekwondo for over thirteen years and am a proud third-degree dan, training to get my 4th! Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts that teaches more than physical fighting skills. Taekwondo unifies the body, mind, and life and teaches life skills.
As an instructor at my dojang, Sun Lee Taekwondo, I teach kids and adults of varying skills the poomsae (forms) and kicks. I have competed in several competitions at the regional and national level, and the highlight was winning a Silver medal at the U.S Open taekwondo competition.
Our motto is “Teaching life skills through martial arts.” Little did I anticipate how much I could learn and broaden my perspective through my taekwondo journey. Much like the STEM field, girls are underrepresented in taekwondo. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to build confidence and skills in students, especially girls, and master self-defense. This martial art form will always be a part of me. I aspire to give back to all that taekwondo has given me.
