Gold Award

I started my Girl Scout journey four years ago as an independent Girl Scout (Juliette). Being a Girl Scout has given me the courage to push away self-limiting beliefs and boundaries and the confidence that anyone can positively impact the community, regardless of age and skill.

Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn for developing and carrying out lasting solutions to address challenges in their communities and beyond. For my Gold award, I am building non-invasive vibrating wristbands to help mitigate hand tremors in Parkinson’s patients and donating them to organizations that help PD patients.

I worked on creating the bands a brochure that explains how the band works, and donated it to two non-profit organizations. During the summer of 2022, when I visited India, I donated my bands to FrontEnders Foundation - a non-profit organization in Chennai, India supporting elderly PD and stroke patients.

I also donated my bands to Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society(DAPS) members. It was so gratifying to know that my bands will be available for DAPS members during the Holiday Luncheon event. I am sad that I couldn’t attend the event due to my final exams, but I packaged all the devices with a brochure and dropped it off at the DAPS office over Thanksgiving break!

I am humbled and honored to be selected as one of the Mary Anne Cree Young Women of Distinction for my gold award project. The recognition event was on Nov 4th and you can learn more about it here.
